The best time to escape gets even better in February, when the contemporary art fair 1–54 comes to Marrakech. Discover cutting edge works from the African continent and its diaspora in one place in the medina –actually in two places as this year the renowned event occupies both the immaculate La Mamounia hotel and the ever transformative DaDa space. With galleries across the world participating and art lovers congregating, it’s the perfect time to get away from you’re a glum winter and make a trip of it.
And at this time, Dar Kawa will be organizing a special art retreat for collectors and art enthusiasts who want to peruse the fair while benefitting from an insider’s cultural immersion in one go. Covering the nights of February 8-11, 2024, we’re extending a special rate that includes partaking selectively with the VIP schedule of the art fair 1–54 and then veering off into our own program of meeting the local movers and shakers of Morocco. In addition to your pampered stay at Dar Kawa, the itinerary includes visits to various artist studios and cultural highlights not to be missed, as well as private events and dinners hosted by those daring forces who shape the Moroccan cultural landscape.
This special trip will be led by our very own Céline Pissoort, a Belgian art aficionado who is managing bookings at Dar Kawa and is co-manager of its Artist in Residency program in the off season. Céline is also the founder of VIETNAMOI, which leads a collectors’ trip to Vietnam twice a year in March and November. In Brussels, Céline holds posts with various private collections and before that lived in Vietnam for 10 years, where she was associate director of one of Southeast Asia’s most pioneering art spaces – Galerie Quynh. Having also presented as a television host on RTBF and performing in a number of theatrical productions on stage in Europe, Céline’s adventurous spirit, broad experience traveling the world and expertise in international art makes her the ideal guide for this special journey.
