His attachment to Morocco
Daoud Aoulad Syad is Moroccan but it is in Nancy, France, that he gets his degree and then his doctorate in physical sciences. An academic path that he gradually abandons for art … photography first. At 22, he is touched by an exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson. He buys his first camera and experiments. So much so that he exposes, publishes in the international press. But he decides to return to his country.

Daoud Aoulad Syad est marocain mais c’est à Nancy, en France, qu’il décroche son bac puis son doctorat en sciences physiques. Un parcours académique qu’il délaisse peu à peu pour l’art… la photographie d’abord. A 22 ans, il est touché par une visite d’exposition d’Henri Cartier-Bresson. Il s’achète son premier appareil photo et expérimente. A tel point qu’il expose, publie dans la presse internationale. Mais il décide de retourner au pays
‘Moroccans’
In Morocco, he photographs people, people of the street, the children, the men of the countryside. He deepens the south and delivers the book simply called ‘Moroccans’. The memory of a changing society. The photos are in black and white, raw, without staging. The graphic composition is sober, fair, real. This book is touching of sincerity.
‘Marocains’
Au Maroc, il photographe le peuple, les gens de la rue, les enfants, les hommes de la campagne. Il approfondit le sud et livre l’ouvrage intitulé simplement ‘Marocains’. La mémoire d’une société en mutation. Les photos sont en noir et blanc, brutes, sans mise en scène. La composition graphique est sobre, juste, réelle. Cet ouvrage est touchant de sincérité.

Daoud Aoulad Syad continues his work as a photographer but also as a filmmaker. Short films are released first and then feature films. Works in which he continues to proclaim his attachment to popular culture, fairground arts and collective memory.
