An amazing painter. Colorful, powerful and today connected. At over 80 years, David Hockney decided to create via Ipad, Iphone. A little surprising gesture for an avant-garde artist ever since. A figurehead of the art of the twentieth century, he remains a determinant figure in the art world.
On the terrace of Marrakech
His life led him to travel and leave his native United Kingdom. Exiled for many years in Los Angeles, he began his career as a press cartoonist in Egypt for the Sunday Times. A few years later, in 1971, he made a stopover in Morocco. He stayed there with Peter Schlesinger, his companion and Celia Birtwell, an English fashion designer. The end of the couple was then close but David Hockney painted “On the Terrace”, a portrait of Peter Schlesinger seen from behind on a terrace in Marrakech.
The light that bursts into the work of David Hockney responds well to the vitality of Morocco, a country so inspiring for many artists.

Sa vie l’a amené à voyager et à quitter son Royaume-Uni natal. Exilé pendant de nombreuses années à Los Angeles, il a débuté sa carrière comme dessinateur de presse en Egypte pour le Sunday Times.
Quelques années plus tard, en 1971, il fait escale au Maroc. Il y séjourne avec Peter Schlesinger, son compagnon et Celia Birtwell, une designer de mode anglaise. La fin du couple est alors proche mais David Hockney peint ‘Sur la Terrasse’, un portrait de Peter Schlesinger vu de dos sur un terrasse de Marrakech. La lumière qui éclate dans l’œuvre de David Hockney répond bien à la vitalité du Maroc, un pays si inspirant pour de nombreux artistes.
