The foundation of a contemporary painter
He is a contemporary Moroccan painter who has marked his country as international art. Farid Belkahia left in 2014 but in response to his wish, a Foundation was born in his name in 2015. Its purpose? To perpetuate the influence of the artist’s work. Through scholarships, she helps young researchers, journalists, writers to dig the practice of Farid Belkahia, she supports young artists and promotes traditional artisans who work in accordance with the values defended by Farid Belkahia.
La Fondation d’un peintre contemporain
Il est un peintre marocain contemporain qui a marqué son pays comme l’art international. Farid Belkahia s’en est allé en 2014 mais en réponse à son souhait, une Fondation a vu le jour à son nom en 2015. Son but ? Perpétuer le rayonnement de l’œuvre de l’artiste. Grâce à des bourses, elle aide les jeunes chercheurs, les journalistes, les écrivains à creuser la pratique de Farid Belkahia, elle soutient de jeunes artistes et promeut des artisans traditionnels qui oeuvrent en accord avec les valeurs défendues par Farid Belkahia.
A place of meaning
Located in Marrakech in the house of the artist the Foundation transpires his person. In the early 1980s, Farid Belkahia was looking for a place to build a house, a workshop. It is not the land but a tree, a pistachio of the Atlas, which then pushes him to choose this place. With the architect Abderrahim Sijelmassi, he built this brick dwelling made from the land of the place. In the center of the house is water, life. Farid Belkahia is at the heart of the elements … a characteristic of her work.
Un lieu de sens
Située à Marrakech dans la maison de l’artiste la Fondation transpire sa personne. Au début des années 1980, Farid Belkahia cherchait un terrain où établir sa maison, son atelier. Ce n’est pas la terre mais bien un arbre, un pistachier de l’Atlas, qui le pousse alors à choisir ce lieu. Avec l’architecte Abderrahim Sijelmassi, il construit cette habitation en briques faites à partir de la terre du lieu. Au centre de la maison, se trouve l’eau, la vie. Farid Belkahia est au cœur des éléments… une caractéristique de son œuvre.
An authentic journey
At the same time artist and professor, it is only in 1974 that Farid Belkahia devotes himself entirely to his art. He then turns to the natural, his essence, his identity by deciding to work copper, skin, wood, natural pigments such as henna. From Berber signs, he creates universal graphic symbols. He frees himself from the colonial heritage and draws from his roots, the truth of his work.
Un cheminement authentique
A la fois artiste et professeur, ce n’est qu’en 1974 que Farid Belkahia se consacre entièrement à son art. Il se tourne alors vers le naturel, son essence, son identité en décidant de travailler le cuivre, la peau, le bois, les pigments naturels comme le henné. A partir de signes berbères, il crée des symboles graphiques universels. Il s’affranchit de l’héritage colonial et puise dans ses racines, la vérité de son œuvre.
