Her travels in Morocco

This second opus of memories is a story of real and mental journeys. In Morocco, Patti Smith throws the soil in a dream for many years. While she is in the United States, she imagines herself in Tangiers at the edge of a white wall drinking coffee. In Morocco itself, she stays twice. In 1997 to visit her friend Paul Bowles, American composer and writer who spent much of his life in Morocco. And then in 2013, she is invited to a Symposium in Tangier organized in honor of the Beat Generation and is accompanied on stage by the Masters Musicians of Jajouka and Flea but also by the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Ses voyages au Maroc

Ce 2e opus de mémoires est un récit de voyages réels et mentaux. Au Maroc, Patti Smith foule le sol en rêve pendant de nombreuses années. Alors qu’elle est aux Etats-Unis, elle s’imagine à Tanger au bord d’un muret blanc en train de boire un café. Au Maroc en lui-même, elle y séjourne à deux reprises. En 1997 pour rendre visite à son ami Paul Bowles, ce compositeur et écrivain américain qui passa une grande partie de sa vie au Maroc. Et puis en 2013, elle est invitée à un Colloque à Tanger organisé en l’honneur de la Beat Generation et est accompagnée sur scène par les Maîtres Musiciens de Jajouka et Flea mais aussi par le bassiste des Red Hot Chili Peppers.

A pilgrimage

Tangier is for her the opportunity to pay tribute to Jean Genet, French writer who died in 1986, then buried in Larache. For him, she had harvested, nearly 30 years earlier, three stones from the ruins of the site of Saint-Laurent-Du-Maroni, the penitentiary colony of northwestern French Guiana, a place idolized by the writer. She then deposited them on his grave. This stay in Morocco, Patti Smith saw it as a pilgrimage … a tribute to some who are no longer, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs. So many lives related to that of Morocco.

Un pèlerinage

Tanger est pour elle l’opportunité de rendre hommage à Jean Genet, écrivain français mort en 1986, alors enterré à Larache. Pour lui, elle avait récolté, près de 30 ans plus tôt, trois pierres des ruines du site de Saint-Laurent-Du-Maroni, la colonie pénitentiaire du nord-ouest de la Guyane Française, un lieu idolâtré par l’écrivain. Elle les déposa alors sur sa sépulture. Ce séjour au Maroc, Patti Smith le vit comme un pèlerinage… une marche en hommage à certains qui ne sont plus, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs. Autant de vies liées à celle du Maroc.
