Tarbouche
Steeped in history.
A deep red, surmounted by an acorn of blue silk, black or gold. A headgear worn for hundreds of years in Morocco. The tarbouche is reserved for men and holidays. It contrasts so clearly with the white djellaba and the gilding of slippers. It is anchored in the history of the country but its origins go back to ancient Greece. The ‘tarbouche’ or ‘fez’ has gradually spread in the Ottoman Empire to be fully adopted by Morocco in a shorter version.
Ancré dans l’histoire
Un rouge profond, surmonté d’un gland de soie bleue, noire ou dorée. Un couvre-chef porté depuis des centaines d’années au Maroc, réservé aux hommes et aux jours de fête. Il contraste si nettement avec la djellaba blanche et la dorure des babouches. Il est ancré dans l’histoire du pays mais ses origines remontent à la Grèce antique. Le ‘tarbouche’ ou le ‘fez’ s’est peu à peu répandu dans l’empire ottoman pour être entièrement adopté par le Maroc dans une version plus courte.
A Patriotic Charge
Initially, it is made of wool and today made of felt. It is worn during religious or official ceremonies and has even become a patriotic symbol. Wearing a tarbouche under the French bosses was a real form of rebellion. King Hassan II bore it voluntarily after Independence.

Initialement, il est fabriqué en laine et aujourd’hui en feutre. Il se porte lors de cérémonies religieuses ou officielles et est même devenu un symbole patriotique. Porter un tarbouche sous le patronat français était une réelle forme de rébellion. Le roi Hassan II le portait d’ailleurs volontairement après l’Indépendance.

Honoring objects, turning them away. For the brand V.Barkowski, I imagined a ceramic tarbouche, a suspension. A hat above the heads and not on the heads. This tarbouche is red obviously but not only, it can be declined in several colors. The electric wire is made of woven cotton. Honorer les objets, les détourner. Pour la marque V.Barkowski, j’ai imaginé un tarbouche en céramique, une suspension. Un tarbouche au-dessus des têtes et non sur les têtes.
